These patterns have the chunky texture and curving layers. You can pretty much use any yarn and hook suitable for the yarn, but personally I prefer to use worsted weight yarn and an H crochet hook. The alternation of increase rounds and petal rounds allows you to make the flower as big as you want without it getting bulky. They work up quickly once you get the hang of it.
